CHARACTER

I want to try and encapsulate all the varying sides of my character that I had imagined, although in two minutes, this may be near impossible.

  • Furious, explosive, violent
  • Distressed, agitated
  • Quiet, calm, contained fury
  • Depressive, miserable, defeated
  • Excitable, manic, full of hilarity
  • Blank, empty

If I can fit them all in, I think it should bolster the surrealist aspect - snapping between emotions very rapidly and without due provocation.

I would like confidence, teetering quite heavily on the brink of arrogance, a disregard to everything, mocking laughter in the eyes.

Character Personality Experimentations
Actress: Alice Stobart

The improvised body language was exactly what I wanted, I particularly enjoy the foot tapping with the delighted, childish smile.

Henry Tate Mews, Streatham (Exterior)

I like the grounds of this estate and the apartment block seen bellow as a possibility for the hospital, depending on how high class I decide I want it.
I have an insider so getting access will not be a problem.

Black Prince Road, Kennington (Exteriors)

Derelict and austere
The over exposure of the light at tiny points with the mist is surreal and dreamlike

Imposing buildings

The block, bold black and white of the branches against the blank sky - no texture
I like these images, with the blurred fence bars in the foreground and the wide stretch of empty space, the texture of the brickwork and the concrete floor

We feel an outsider, looking in. Low angle, with the fence above us, makes the viewer powerless
Visually, I really like metal fences

Streatham Common (Exterior)

I like the over exposure with the light at the edges of these, with the eerie, twisted trees.

Clapham (Exteriors)

 Grafton Square
The sun was really bright, I like the light in this photo, with the dappled shadows of the leaves on the brick pattern, the leaves on the tree and gathered on the ground. And I like the 'Christ shall give you light', with the light shining onto it.
 Clapham Common/The Pavement
I like the contrast of the childish paddling pool, with the depressing, grey look of the photo - the slight haze of rain, the reflective sheen of water on the pool floor and the thinning trees. Visually, I just like this place a lot.
Crescent Lane (not 100% sure though)
Again, the run-down look with the tone of the photo
 St. Paul's Churchyard
I like quaintness of this graveyard, it's morbidly ironic and I find it slightly funny. Graveyards tend to be considered scary places so I suppose this is ideal for a thriller. I would only have this as a very brief passing shot if I do include it at all; I wouldn't want any action in the graveyard.

Wandsworth Road (Exteriors)

I like the run-down quality of the buildings on this road, I think they work to look simultaneously austere and derelict, which is what I wanted. I like the look of the peeling paint, textured concrete etc with the grainy, black and white tone of the photos that I want for my film.

LOCATION: Hospital Corridor (Barbican Theatre Toilets)

Similar to the issues with the empty room locations I found, these photos were taken in the Barbican theatre toilets, but permission to film in them may be gained, we'll see.

I like the lights and reflection off all the shiny surfaces, as well as the repetition in the mirrors, toilet doors etc. There's a very synthetic look to it, which would work perfectly for its purpose and I find the fake look of it adds to its surreal nature. And aesthetically, I think I could quite easily emulate a hospital corridor in there.

LOCATION: Empty Room (Parasol Unit)

These photographs were taken in an art gallery where film/photography/access is not readily permitted so these actual locations will not be of any use. But the images give an idea of the kind of thing I am still looking for, for the empty room. I'll keep looking.
